Dark Thirty

We checked out 'Zero Dark Thirty' yesterday, and the story of the 11-year hunt for Osama bin Laden (OBL) has its issues, but it also has some very cool details.

The filmmakers achieved considerable access to people with knowledge of the manhunt and their goal was to "be as accurate as we possibly could" without having been there. So we assume that the following details are mostly factual.

Even if its disinformation, CIA fingerprints can be seen down to the small details.

#10 — "Maya" tells the SEALs, "You're going to kill the f***er for me," indicating that there may have never been a plan to capture OBL.

#9 — One of the first lines of the movie is, "He has to learn how helpless he is," which is a reference to the Bush-era torture goal of "learned helplessness," or making captives feel that they are physically and psychologically dependent on their captors.

#8 — References to America as "The Homeland": CIA higher-ups continually harp on "protecting the homeland" from new terrorist attacks, as opposed to bringing bin Laden to justice for old ones.
